Refurbished Castle Opens

"The Castle was built in the 1960s using stones carried one at a time from the base of its astounding cliff. For the past twenty-five years the present owners have dreamed of transforming it into an even more romantic and dramatic clifftop castle. However they were daunted by the apparent impossibility of sourcing matching stone or of finding masons skilled in traditional techniques, let alone adding to solid stone walls built at the very edge of a heartstopping cliff face.

Last year the owners decided to take on the challenge and commissioned a visionary architect to transform the Castle. An enthusiastic and innovative builder accepted the formidable but adventurous building assignment and - miraculously - a team of old fashioned stone masons appeared who knew of a quarry where stone indistinguishable from the original could be found. The result of a year's rebuilding is a stunning transformation. The much enhanced Castle has reopened and is now undoubtedly Southern Africa's finest private villa."
